As the K.E.S. principal, I spend a lot of time reflecting and thinking about what we can do to help each child be successful. What do we want students to learn? How will we know they learned it? What will we do if they already know it or if they didn’t learn it? Are we teaching with enough rigor and challenging students enough? Basically, I spend a lot of time reflecting on whether or not we are making sure students leave our building ready to take on challenging college track courses in middle school and high school.
I know what we do on a daily basis is extremely important. I am a firm believer that everyone can “learn to be smart.” In other words, we can all do more and accomplish more than we sometimes think we can. As a school, we must challenge our students and give them the message that we believe in them and that the work we do will help them succeed and in return the work they do will literally result in them overcoming obstacles and any challenges. Well, the learning environment at KES does just that for sure.
Our students start in kindergarten and through the years we help them develop a roadmap to success. If students don’t know something, we teach them that they don’t know something YET, but that they will. The masterful staff members at KES do challenge students and they do this with compassion. They work collaboratively and diligently, and I can honestly say that the students at KES are lucky to learn from such wonderful people and skilled professional educators.
I am excited to welcome everyone back for a magnificent year. Thank you so much for being a part of this wonderful learning atmosphere. We will have fun and we will all learn together. What is more fun than accomplishing great things? That is what KES strives to portray day in and day out.
Mr. Kevin Hulbert,
Principal, Keeseville Elementary School
